kmoney
A lot of the artist images scraped are low quality and small files like 300 x 300 px. Could something be added to scrape larger pixel files or maybe a different place to scrape images from? If Lastfm is the place that the images are scraped from they do have higher pixel image files for most artist. Maybe something could be added to give larger images priority first. I know its easy to add my own images but would be great if the scraper put priority on the larger images first.
Izzy
Maybe scrape from Fanart.tv? Good quality and size on the artwork.
Jason Carr
Yeah, that's been bugging me too. If anyone is aware of a good artist image source with an API, let me know. I'm not sure but I think Last.fm might be artificially reducing the size of the images, sigh.

daitallica
I agree with the different source, one of the artists in my collection has a completely different artist as the picture The band are called Skin (British Rock band) it has a picture of Skin from Skunk Anansie (British Indie Band) The album cover is correct though oddly haha Perhaps an option to use our own pictures and or an option to upload our pictures to a musicbox database, kinda like Launchbox ? BlackSol
Perhaps something like Album Art Downloader could be added.
MonkeyDMills
theaudiodb.com might be worth a look as a good artist image source
Jason Carr
Thank you guys; good ideas. I'm currently looking into adding support for fanart.tv, which should get us pretty far. However, I would have to implement the Musicbrainz API first. That would also be a big win but I have some work to do there. I'm liking the look of theaudiodb.com though as well, so I may add that first if it's easier. @daitallica It would be quite an effort to build a whole music database website and such, so I'm currently not planning to do that since there seems to be multiple other options that are at least decent, and I'd rather not try and reinvent the wheel if it's not necessary. That said, you can certainly provide your own pictures just by naming them correctly and placing them in the proper folders (MusicBoxAlpha\Images\Artists for example). In the future we'll probably provide a way to automatically do this from within the app by browsing for an image.
edge3000
Have you considered Discogs.com to see if it is suitable for your image needs as well? Mp3tag uses it for cover art and metadata and they have a pretty extensive database. https://www.discogs.com/developers/ It did mention this though:Requests are throttled by the server by source IP to 60 per minute for authenticated requests, and 25 per minute for unauthenticated requests, with some exceptions.

Sorry for the late reply @edge3000. That does indeed look like a good option. Hopefully eventually we can integrate several different options for image downloads. One thing I'm looking at currently is the possibility of integrating Album Art Downloader, though I'm not sure of the feasibility of that yet. edge3000
Hi Jason, On the topic of images: I just imported my collection on MBA 0.18, All my albums grabbed the embedded artwork from my mp3s and look great! I found a couple album arts that didn't work - it was because inside the mp3 the album art was set to "Other" instead of "Front Cover". I used mp3tag to change them all to Front Cover and they import properly now! I don't think you have image editing in the built in tag editor yet but I do love what is there so far, it works great and can make things easier! A lot of artist images are blank. Some pretty well known bands too like ACDC, Disturbed, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, Tool etc. Its not a big deal though it looks like I can just download my own and put them in the \MusicBoxAlpha\Images\Artists folder Anyway thanks again for your work on MBA it keeps getting better and I look forward to Playlists in the future btw is there an option to clear the now playing list? Only way I saw was to exit program
edge3000
While putting in custom Artist pictures I found that Guns N' Roses would not work with "Guns N' Roses.jpg" It seems to be the ' causing it
Jason Carr
Yeah, there are still some parsing issues when it comes to certain artists and downloading images, and sometimes if there are multiple artists that exist with the same name, it doesn't always grab the right images, or sometimes no images if there are no images for that artist. Image tag editing isn't there quite yet, no. Per now playing, it will clear out if you just play something else without adding it to the list. edge3000
That works for now thanks! One more question, not image related - but when I go to add an album to a folder of a band that already exists, how can I get it to import the new album? I just have one main folder named MP3 imported, with has something like 280 bands in their own separate folders underneath it. And I'm just trying to add an album to one of the band's folders. I got the album imported eventually but not sure what triggered it. Is it on some kind of timer or constantly searching folders and I just have to wait it out? It is constantly searching, yes, but depending on the view it might not automatically update. I think, generally, if you give it a few seconds and then go out to the route of your collection, it should be there. You can always restart though, which should guarantee that it shows up after the initial scan.
