kmoney
@Jason Carr For some reason I cannot get MusicBox to import flac files but it detects and imports mp3 files fine. Does MusicBox support flac,I think I read somewhere else that it does? When I put the same flac file in Plex it detects it fine as well. Jason Carr
Hmm, that's odd. Yes it certainly does and should detect them just fine. It could be a strange tagging issue though. I'll see if I can better log those types of things as this isn't the first time that missing files have come up.
kmoney
@Jason Carr I am not sure what it could be. I thought it was just flac files but it has happened to some mp3 files as well. I think it is something that MusicBox does not like or like you said something to do with tagging or folder structure. The music that I have ripped from my cd's through itunes all works fine in MusicBox and it detects everything but the music I rip with CueRipper or Exact Audio Copy it does not detect a lot of it. If I put those same files in Plex and it detects and plays everything just fine.
Jason Carr
Sure, makes sense. I'm gonna create some logging to help us troubleshoot this kind of stuff.
kmoney
@Jason Carr I think I figured something out. I downloaded MP3Tag to make sure the files were tagged correctly and every section was except the Genre tag was blank so I filled out the genre in MP3Tag saved it and opened back up MusicBox and it recognized the files right away. So it seems MusicBox will not recognize the file if the genre tag is left blank.
kmoney
I have done further testing and Music Box will definitely not detect the file if the genre is left blank. I have some more files however that are still not detected by Music Box and I have not figured out what that problem is, I am thinking maybe a special character in the file name that Music Box does not like maybe because everything is tagged correctly and all the fields are filled out. I am going to wait until you get the logging created before I import more music over so we can get this figured out.
kmoney
Well I finally got all my music to show up and my songs.xml to populate correctly. I had to give full control permissions to Music Box and my Music folder. I know when you install Music Box it tells you that it needs full control but I didnt know that the Music folder that my music is stored in needed full control as well. I do not keep my music in my users folder but on another drive all together. Its still weird how it detected some of my music but not all of it before I gave the folder full control permissions and sometimes would populate the songs.xml and sometimes would not. I still don't know if that was my total problem or not but at least all my music is showing up and my songs.xml is populated.
Jason Carr
Ah, that is odd. Write permissions definitely shouldn't be needed on the Music folders; but I haven't specifically tested for that. Hopefully the logging will help us identify that stuff when I get it in there.
