soundtrackgeek
I've added 3 folders for it to scan, 2 on local HD and 1 on a network drive. It goes well for a while, maybe 15-20 minutes, then it just quits without warning or error message. Are there some sort of debug logs I could send you? Jason Carr
Thank you @soundtrackgeek, good to know. Do you still run into issues if you don't include the network drive? That would help narrow it down.
soundtrackgeek
Noticed a new beta update. I'll try that and see if it improves things. It does seem to retain some of the date I already had from the last folder update because it seems faster the third time around. If it quits again I'll try to remove the network drive. soundtrackgeek
So I removed the network drive and just have the two local drives, but it crashed even faster Maybe it's an mp3 file with some weird tagging it doesn't like. All my albums are in MP3 by the way.
Jason Carr
Gotcha. Yes, that's possible. I'll look into it.
Simon Holman
I also seem to have issues with crashing, and suspect the same issue as @soundtrackgeek invalid/weird mp3s. I checked the Data\Songs.xml and it's empty. I'll try adding just a albums at a time to see if I can track down if it's a specific file that has an issue. If there is a debug log file or anything to help let me know. Happy to help test. Keep up the great work @Jason Carr!
Jason Carr
Thank you @Simon Holman! Good to know. I'm going to work on seeing if I can resolve these issues later today. Unfortunately there's not a debug log as of yet.
Jason Carr
New version is out guys; let me know if this fixes the issue for you.
soundtrackgeek
@Jason Carr Thanks! Sadly the new version crashed as well.

Would you be willing to try and narrow it down to see if you can find what folder might be causing the problem? That would be a tremendous help if we could pinpoint the folder or file so I can replicate it.
soundtrackgeek
Sure, I'll try one folder at a time. I think I know which folder is causing the issue.
soundtrackgeek
Not sure if it's related, but if I remove all the folders, then restart the app and add a folder it doesn't start scanning. I have to restart the app before it starts.
soundtrackgeek
The folder I suspected was correct. Problem is that it's 10715 folders in there. I will try to copy to another folder starting with the #'s, then the A's and so on and see if I can narrow it down
soundtrackgeek
An update. When I was scanning the B's, it quit right after so I thought it had to be a problem with one of the files in the B folder. However when I did it again the crash didn't happen. So it might be more random than we think.
soundtrackgeek
@Jason Carr Same thing happened with the C folder, so I think I'll stop the testing there. We really need some debug logging available so we can pinpoint what exactly happens.
Jason Carr
Gotcha. Thanks for all that testing @soundtrackgeek. I'm gonna focus on trying to get this fixed today.
Jason Carr
Alright, got a new version out that I'm really hoping will fix the stability issues. They seem to have been RAM related, and I've reduced the memory footprint quite a bit. One of the issues I was running into is that I was getting errors in the released builds that I wasn't seeing in the development versions, so at least I am aware of that now and I was able to replicate the issues. Let me know how this release fairs for you @soundtrackgeek.

soundtrackgeek
@Jason Carr Still crashes for me. I only added one folder this time.

Ugh, this one's gonna be tough. At this point it's pretty clear that it's a unique issue and it's somehow related to either your system or your collection. Can you check your Windows Application event log and paste me what you're seeing there related to Music Box? Let me know if you're lost there and I can find a tutorial or something to point you in the right direction. Thanks for sticking with me on this. Jason Carr
@Simon Holman Are you still experiencing any issues with the latest version?
soundtrackgeek
@Jason CarrWell, something has changed in the latest version. Memory and CPU usage are far less than before. However, there probably needs to be some kind of incremental saving. I did a scan of one of my folders, it seemed to finish without a crash, took around 2 hours. Ok, cool I thought. I quit it and started it again, but it didn't save the scan I did so I have to scan it all for 2 hours again.
Jason Carr
Wow, 2 hours. That seems crazy. How many songs/files do you have in your folders? What's your hardware look like? I didn't change anything memory/CPU-wise from 0.5, though.
soundtrackgeek
I got 183.000 files in the folder. I got I7-3770K 3.5Ghz, 16 gig ram

Sorry only got a chance to play around with it this weekend, but version 0.6 seems to be working great, loaded about 60,000 tracks without any issues. Thanks for the great work!
